Don’t Feel Good Enough for God? 3 Ways Perfectionism is Unbiblical

See this content in the original post

Knowing God Loves Us is Only Part of the Equation

  • We also need to be open to receiving that love.

  • And if we don’t feel “good enough,” then we’re not going to open ourselves up to that love - even if it’s from our Father and the Creator of the Universe.

Perfectionism Comes from Man-made Rules - Not God-given Instruction

  • Perfectionism often stems from:

    • Inaccurate understanding of the Bible

    • Patriarchal views

    • Certain people who meet those rules (or project that they are) can therefore feel prideful and better than others

Trying to be Perfect Only Ends in Pride or Despair

  • Pride is the result when someone feels like they’re more amazing than others.

  • Despair is the result when someone realizes they can never live up to expectations.

  • Neither of these results lead to a good place.

  • Instead of leaving us with these options, God gives us an invitation to:

    • Give our hearts and lives to Him

    • Accept Jesus as our Savior who died for our sins

    • And then seek to live a life based on His way versus the world’s way

God Does Not Require Perfectionism

  • God knows we’re incapable of being perfect or meeting certain standards 24/7/365.

  • We’re human. We’re fallen. It’s just not going to happen.

  • And He loves us too much to leave us to our own devices.
