God’s Love Never, Ever Changes - No Matter What We Do

  • Today’s simple - but highly powerful truth - is this: God’s love does not change. Not ever!

  • This might seem like a hard concept to wrap one’s head around because the love of the world can sometimes feel transactional and fickle.

  • Or, at the very least, not consistently present or stable. Relationships end; people naturally move in and out of our lives; and a lot of you have (as I have) unfortunately experienced relationships where the so-called love was stemming from a place of narcissism, abuse, or selfishness.

  • That’s not to say that all human love is like that. But humans are not holy and perfect like God, right? It’s good news that God’s love is very different - but it can be a difficult concept to wrap our heads around.

  • That being said, the Bible plainly shows us how God’s love is different.

  • For example, consider the following Scriptures:

    • Lamentations 3:22-23 (MSG) says, “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.”

    • Psalm 136: 26 (NLT) says, “Give thanks to the God of heaven. His faithful love endures forever.”

    • Jeremiah 31: 3 (NLT) says, “Long ago the Lord said to Israel: ‘I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.’”

  • In addition, the entire Bible is full of stories where God remains faithful to His people, continuing to love them, even when they make mistakes, sin, or turn away from Him.

  • Lastly, to God love is not just an emotion.

    • Which is how the world often speaks of love - as an emotion that comes and goes and that we’re at the mercy of. Example: Falling in and out of love and, when that happens, it being a reason to end a relationship and move on to someone else.

  • God is love (1 John 4:16). This means as He exists enterally, so does His love for you! Because love isn’t just something He feels - it’s an intricate part of who He is.
