Knowing God Loves Us is Only Part of the Equation
We also need to be open to receiving that love.
And if we don’t feel “good enough,” then we’re not going to open ourselves up to that love - even if it’s from our Father and the Creator of the Universe.
Perfectionism Comes from Man-made Rules - Not God-given Instruction
Perfectionism often stems from:
Inaccurate understanding of the Bible
Patriarchal views
Certain people who meet those rules (or project that they are) can therefore feel prideful and better than others
Trying to be Perfect Only Ends in Pride or Despair
Pride is the result when someone feels like they’re more amazing than others.
Despair is the result when someone realizes they can never live up to expectations.
Neither of these results lead to a good place.
Instead of leaving us with these options, God gives us an invitation to:
Give our hearts and lives to Him
Accept Jesus as our Savior who died for our sins
And then seek to live a life based on His way versus the world’s way
God Does Not Require Perfectionism
God knows we’re incapable of being perfect or meeting certain standards 24/7/365.
We’re human. We’re fallen. It’s just not going to happen.
And He loves us too much to leave us to our own devices.
